happy anniversary: allison & robert…

i’ve been thinking lately about how i can post some great past wedding cakes without feeling “behind the times.” it hit me that i should be celebrating these great couples and their fabulous cakes on their anniversaries!

so, first up is allison & robert… this was by far, the most detailed cake i’ve ever designed. allison wanted it to look like it was dripping metallic beads… i started the dragaees lighter at the top and heavier towards the bottom. gold, silver and pearl… everything about their reception at center stage in noda was gorgeous! {even the table linens were dripping pearls!} and our talented mutual friend seth snider from seth snider photography did all the photos. check out all the wedding goodness here.

i think now that it’s been a hot minute since the wedding i can tell this crazy story: {if i think about it too much i still start to feel like i might faint} once i started placing the dragaees on one by one {by hand} i realized that i couldn’t stop… they would only stick if the buttercream was at room temperature… so i had to put them all on in one shot which took somewhere around 6-7 hours. after i was finished i took a deep breath only to then figure out that i was all alone and my roommate kim was either gone or sleeping {i can’t remember, but i think if she was asleep i would have woken her up for help!} and the cake needed to be carried to the fridge. {which was not even a little close} all i can say is that i definitely prayed, maybe cried and the angels must have helped me lift the thing, but in the fridge it landed and it turned out perfect!

and ps: i think this is the most breathtaking “cake cutting” photo. ever. breathtaking right?!? happy 2nd anniversary allison and robert! xo!
