chanel cake…

i remembered this cake as i was reading about the original Chanel boutique in Paris at 31 Rue Cambon… purchased by Coco herself in 1910, it’s always remained the flagship location and Karl Lagerfeld still works in the atelier on the 3rd floor. i’ve also heard the rooftop garden supposely has the best view of the whole city. hoping to visit while we’re in Paris!

our pastors daughter Cassidy wanted a vintage Chanel themed birthday party a while back… and for 9 that’s fancy! she dreamed up and even sketched out her vision for the cake… hot pink, with black and silver. filled up with lemon curd and vanilla buttercream it was iconic just like the brand. the girls dressed up, pampered each other and celebrated like princesses… oh so Coco.

plans for london & paris… eek!

i can’t believe it’s almost time to go. we’re leaving in 5 days… 5 days! gil and i started dreaming up this trip before we even got married… then, instead of taking a traditional honeymoon when we got hitched we started a travel fund… a fund for plane tickets, hotels, historical sites and lots of food and trinkets. a whole year of saving, planning, researching and preparing is almost over. we’re headed to london and paris for our {honeymoon/first anniversary} and i’m so excited i can hardly stand it.

we’re SO ready for a vacation… and ready for some quality one on one time. all i can think about is wandering cobblestone streets, listening to british accents and staring at my handsome husband over brie and baguette under the eiffel tower. i’m ready to leave my regular  routine, work, and technology behind and just explore. i’m not taking my phone or computer so don’t forget about me… i’ll be blogging again as soon as we return! and i’ll have LOTS of photos! we’ve made a lot of tentative plans, but only in list form because spontaneity reigns! here are some of our plans so far…

plans for london:

  • all the great landmarks: big ben, parliment, tower bridge, buckingham palace etc.
  • windsor castle {omg! a HUGE bucket list check off… if you know me or our bunny then you know my obsession with england’s tudor history.}
  • the tower of london {we’re spending our first night at the Tower Hotel… we asked for a window with a view!}
  • the eye of london
  • we’re heading to chelmsford to stay with friends for the weekend and i can’t wait to visit cambridge!
  • westminster abbey.
  • and whatnot.

plans for paris:

  • we’re staying at La Belle Juliette in Saint Germain des Pres… supposedly one of the most stylish areas, overflowing with paris’ oldest literary cafes. {i’m sure i’ll be photographing every piece of cane back i can find.}
  • the eiffel tower
  • the louvre
  • the palace of versailles {omg. can’t wait to visit marie antionette’s estate}
  • the catacombs {oh my!}
  • notre dame
  • and more whatnot.
a friend of mine is teaching me french and so far i can say quite a few things… i can say “i would like to buy this” and i can definitely ask where the train, bathroom and bakery are so i think i’m set! ha! i’m already positive it will be the best time i’ve ever had. we are SO blessed. whelp, time to get packing… be curious!

elephant baby shower cake…

my sweet friend sarah is having a baby ANY day now… {she and her husband are our chiropractors, and they’re amazing. check out their website here.} everyone’s on pins and needles because the gender of the baby is still a surprise! gil and i are guessing girl, but i think everyone else is guessing boy… can’t wait to find out.

i got to be a part of her super fun and chic’ baby shower this past weekend, as well as design the cake… it’s a favorite of mine already. the gender neutral colors were perfect and it’s brightness shined just like sarah’s glowing smile! and who doesn’t love elephants! it was perfect and such a fun celebration.

love you sarah! can’t wait to meet your sweet babe.

i’m obsessed with: chevron…

i don’t normally like to consider myself “trendy.” i prefer the word “stylish.”  i like to mix a few “trends” in with all of the other things i’m in love with at the moment {and i’m not sure i care if anyone else likes the “other things” or not…}

but… lately i’ve been seeing this chevron trend everywhere and i have to admit that i just absolutely LOVE it… like, i really really love it. like i want to see chevron on everything i can think of… i know that it will eventually fade away like all the other popular trends, but even so, i’m convinced i’ll still be on board.

here are some of my favorite glimpses… mostly home decor’ but lovely nonetheless.

i love how this muted chevron painting still somehow steals your focus...

i will have this rug...

i pulled this missoni skirt out of my closet to snap a photo... can't go wrong with missoni, they've been doing chevron for decades.

i heart you ashley.

is this painted? i want to try it.

ahh ombre.

now this takes time + talent...

barely there.

my rug again...

love the grey.

i've posted this photo before but i just can't stop...

saw a girl at the ebar with this cute phone case... she was sweet to let me snap a photo of it. we had a little chevron love moment right at the coffee bar...

where have you seen chevron that you love and can’t get enough of?! have a project you’d like to see ?! let me know… maybe i’ll do the grunt work and a how-to for you! be curious friends… hg

our wedding…

today is gil and i’s first anniversary… i’m nothing but speechless when i think of how blessed we are and what we’ve both been rescued out of… i thought the best way to celebrate would be a wedding post of our special day in charleston… i must say, it was nothing short of amazing… literally, the. best. day. ever. thanks AGAIN to everyone who made themselves a part of it by helping and celebrating with us! be curious… enjoy & happy labor day weekend!

guests loved the photobooth! they had their pictures taken upon arrival in front of my great-grandmothers quilt...

wedding cake covered in rose petals...

my cherished keys {usually on my neck} and an antique brooch gifted from a best friend donned my bouquet...

invitaions...

maps of charleston and a list of our favorite places for guests spending labor day weekend in the low country...

rings & izze...

gil's grandmother learned to type on this very royal... guests had fun figuring out how to type us messages...

the whole family...

handmade candy poppers filled with charleston salt water taffy...

table tops...

my parents...

one room was filled with tea party hor dourves... tiny sandwhiches, soups and such...

the view of the ashley river at sunset...

cocktail tables...

the other room was filled with tea party desserts... cupcakes, my mom's coconut macaroons, and more cream puffs than you could count.

my dad and i danced to "my girl" by the temptations...

gil wrote and sang me a beautiful song... love him!
