i’m obsessed with: chevron…
Posted: September 12, 2011 Filed under: business., cakes., favorites., interiors., personal., style & fashion. 1 Comment »i don’t normally like to consider myself “trendy.” i prefer the word “stylish.” i like to mix a few “trends” in with all of the other things i’m in love with at the moment {and i’m not sure i care if anyone else likes the “other things” or not…}
but… lately i’ve been seeing this chevron trend everywhere and i have to admit that i just absolutely LOVE it… like, i really really love it. like i want to see chevron on everything i can think of… i know that it will eventually fade away like all the other popular trends, but even so, i’m convinced i’ll still be on board.
here are some of my favorite glimpses… mostly home decor’ but lovely nonetheless.

i pulled this missoni skirt out of my closet to snap a photo... can't go wrong with missoni, they've been doing chevron for decades.

saw a girl at the ebar with this cute phone case... she was sweet to let me snap a photo of it. we had a little chevron love moment right at the coffee bar...
where have you seen chevron that you love and can’t get enough of?! have a project you’d like to see ?! let me know… maybe i’ll do the grunt work and a how-to for you! be curious friends… hg
saucy lingerie cake…
Posted: August 31, 2011 Filed under: business., cakes., favorites., style & fashion. 1 Comment »lingerie parties are always a hit with a group of girls celebrating another girl friend’s soon to be marriage… but a cake with lingerie on it doesn’t seem classy right?! wrong. what better way to celebrate a lingerie party than a still-elegant cake with saucy lingerie on it?! i made sure i donned this one with lots of silver glitter and edible pearls… it was perfect.
have a lingerie party in the works? be curious… i can guarantee the girls will love this.
treasure & bond…
Posted: August 23, 2011 Filed under: business., favorites., interiors., personal., travel. 1 Comment »it’s times like this when i get all giddy about being a “nordy.” i feel honored to be a part of such a great company that every day feels like family… and i’ve been excited to share this news for a while!
my colleagues and i found out about this project sometime last year when we got word that Paige {our ahhmazing head of Visual for the company, who i so luckily got to meet and hang out with when i opened the new Boston store in 2010} was asked by the Nordstrom Brothers to head up a new concept store in Manhattan. we were sad and ecstatic at the same time!! we got bits and pieces of information here and there, but have really seen it all come together these last few weeks. {checking our emails frequently for updates, insider information and photos/videos} the word on the street is that Anna Wintour {Vogue EIC} and her philanthropist friend Catie Marron called up Pete Nordstrom with an idea for a non-profit based store where all the proceeds would go to charity… and thus, the idea for Treasure & Bond arose. {we thought Treasure & Bond was a psuedo-name until another one was chosen, but it looks like it stuck… and i like it} a Nordstrom owned store, yet so very un-recognizeably Nordstrom… it will operate independently with 100% of the profits each month going to benefit two different children’s charities in the big apple. {wow!} it’s unlike anything people have seen before. Paige built it from the ground up… designing the store, building her already amazing relationships with vendors and designers, choosing the buy, etc. it was furnished and detailed as low cost as possible with various items/fixtures from other Nordstrom stores around the country. {ps: there are metal, multi-drawered, apothecary tables that we sent with love to nyc from our Southpark store right here in the queen city!} aaand i’ve heard that the uber chic, multi-mirrored dressing room upstairs was repurposed with wood and glass from an old Christmas display from another far-fetched Nordstrom store across the country… love it!
nestled in the heart of SoHo on West Broadway between Broome and Grand streets, the two-story, completely glass front building is filled with all things incredible. over 150 full-price brands… an impressive collection of clothes, {can i say rogan, vince and james perse to name a few} jewelry, {biules, giles & brother, and melissa joy manning} accessories, hand-milled hats by nyc natives, home décor, fragrances, gifts, artwork, handbags, stationery and books. The first floor is devoted to home, accessories, and books {plus the future home of a café, which will serve Stumptown coffee and baked goods), while the upper level is packed with clothes for men, women, and kids. Paige has explained that the only requirement for new items is “awesomeness.” “Whether its $18 or $1,800, it has to be awesome for what it is.” this is such a great opportunity {post the first Nordstrom Rack in Union Sq.} for the company to get to know the nyc customer… hopefully getting us ready for the first Manhattan Nordstrom store. {fingers crossed…}
enjoy these fabulous up-close and personal interior shots… isn’t it just lovely?!
honestly, i’ve been secretly trying to plan a way for me to take a day trip to visit as soon as possible… right now a plane ticket is running me $603. {and the husband looked at me incredibly weird when i just asked him about it} so, let’s just say i’ll be visiting asap and wishing Paige and her new team the best via fb and twitter until i can see them in person! if you’re in the big city, be curious… and please SHOP! what a great way to stylishly help a great community project.
Treasure & Bond just opened this past friday but eight children’s charities are already on the list… here’s a peek.

peacock feather inspired cupcakes…
Posted: August 21, 2011 Filed under: business., cupcakes., party., personal., style & fashion. Leave a comment »my long time friend amanda {her wedding on the blog soon} wanted to celebrate her sister-in-laws engagement party with cupcakes! {red velvet & almond: the two most popular flavors the last few months…} she was throwing a peacock feather-esque themed party… there were going to be feathers galore, and sheer royal blue fabric tied around each chair. {i can’t wait to see her photos!} after trying to think of a way to tie in all the fun colors on the cupcakes {without really putting feathers on them} i thought that swirling all the colors together would be really neat. each cupcake turns out a little different with adds to the excitement when you’re choosing one to eat! i donned the top of each one with edible pearls, gold dragaees, and LOTS of edible glitter.
i think they turned out super saucy and festive! do you like?! be curious…
a sunflower cake to celebrate 50…
Posted: August 14, 2011 Filed under: business., cakes., party., uncategorized. 1 Comment »a super sweet dad {jeff} and daughter {salem} dreamed up this cake for mom’s 50th birthday… it was really cute to see them planning a surprise party behind her back and us discussing the cake via email and facebook when she wasn’t around. miss salem had the cake all figured out… i love a girl who knows what she wants! inspired by olivia’s graduation cake, she asked for white icing, black grosgrain ribbon and a giant fresh sunflower. sophisticated, classic and a punch of something over the top. what better way to celebrate 50?!
i think it turned out just lovely. what do you think? be curious and happy sunday! hg

sweetness: from crystal…
Posted: July 8, 2011 Filed under: business., personal. Leave a comment »just stumbled across some sweetness that a friend of mine poured out about the succulent garden blog… {insert virtual hug here.}
crystal is not only a friend, but a wonderfully fun, talented and amazing photographer! she and her fiance’ ben are traveling the US of A right now on a four month road trip shooting and searching for their dream city… AND they have a succulent attatched to their dash {how fun is that!?} i’ve had the opportunity of working and shooting with her many times… and let’s not forget that she was our wedding photograher! {her style is captivating and our photos are STILL to die for!}
be sure to check them out here, here and here! see where they are and what they’re up to! maybe they’re on the way to a city near you…
here are a few of my favorites from amazing times spent behind her lense…

nicole & blair: go bright for their wedding cake…
Posted: June 29, 2011 Filed under: business., cakes., personal., wedding... 3 Comments »nicole and i have been work friends for almost 5 years! we’ve had lots of great times at Nordstrom and have laughed a lot while working… she is literally one of the most FUN, and out there {in a really good way!} people i know… why should her wedding cake be any different?! this girl is always making some great fashion statement and has her own personal eclectic style that is just so…… nicole. her favorite color, turquoise was making a big statement at the wedding… the bridesmaid dresses, table details and even classic wayfarers… so when nicole said she wanted her wedding cake to be turquoise as well, i was totally on board!
her and blair tied the knot just a few weeks ago, and her cake ended up being one of the most colorful, knockout, bright, delightful and stunning cakes i’ve ever had the opportunity to make. i have to give props to her florist because the roses were GORGEOUS, and really just pushed the whole cake right on over to my favorites list.
enjoy the photos and CONGRATULATIONS nicole & blair! wishing you a lifetime of happiness…
i also received this to-die-for photo via text from the bride after the wedding! seriously?! but it completely made my day.
