ashley & marshall: a mint wedding indeed…

i’ve been SO excited to share the photos from ashley & marshall’s uptown wedding. i was HONORED to be doing the cake and when i arrived at the venue, i secretly wanted to stay there to enjoy the festivities. it was beyond beautifully designed and thought out. i was loving it all: pinks & turquoises, succulents, gold chargers, antique china, mercury glass, chevron, a photobooth, vintage brooches & buttons and ruffles of fabric everywhere… and i know the celebration of these two becoming one was one their friends and family will never forget. enjoy my favorites…

also, i loved their wedding video! be curious…

chanel cake…

i remembered this cake as i was reading about the original Chanel boutique in Paris at 31 Rue Cambon… purchased by Coco herself in 1910, it’s always remained the flagship location and Karl Lagerfeld still works in the atelier on the 3rd floor. i’ve also heard the rooftop garden supposely has the best view of the whole city. hoping to visit while we’re in Paris!

our pastors daughter Cassidy wanted a vintage Chanel themed birthday party a while back… and for 9 that’s fancy! she dreamed up and even sketched out her vision for the cake… hot pink, with black and silver. filled up with lemon curd and vanilla buttercream it was iconic just like the brand. the girls dressed up, pampered each other and celebrated like princesses… oh so Coco.

elephant baby shower cake…

my sweet friend sarah is having a baby ANY day now… {she and her husband are our chiropractors, and they’re amazing. check out their website here.} everyone’s on pins and needles because the gender of the baby is still a surprise! gil and i are guessing girl, but i think everyone else is guessing boy… can’t wait to find out.

i got to be a part of her super fun and chic’ baby shower this past weekend, as well as design the cake… it’s a favorite of mine already. the gender neutral colors were perfect and it’s brightness shined just like sarah’s glowing smile! and who doesn’t love elephants! it was perfect and such a fun celebration.

love you sarah! can’t wait to meet your sweet babe.

i’m obsessed with: chevron…

i don’t normally like to consider myself “trendy.” i prefer the word “stylish.”  i like to mix a few “trends” in with all of the other things i’m in love with at the moment {and i’m not sure i care if anyone else likes the “other things” or not…}

but… lately i’ve been seeing this chevron trend everywhere and i have to admit that i just absolutely LOVE it… like, i really really love it. like i want to see chevron on everything i can think of… i know that it will eventually fade away like all the other popular trends, but even so, i’m convinced i’ll still be on board.

here are some of my favorite glimpses… mostly home decor’ but lovely nonetheless.

i love how this muted chevron painting still somehow steals your focus...

i will have this rug...

i pulled this missoni skirt out of my closet to snap a photo... can't go wrong with missoni, they've been doing chevron for decades.

i heart you ashley.

is this painted? i want to try it.

ahh ombre.

now this takes time + talent...

barely there.

my rug again...

love the grey.

i've posted this photo before but i just can't stop...

saw a girl at the ebar with this cute phone case... she was sweet to let me snap a photo of it. we had a little chevron love moment right at the coffee bar...

where have you seen chevron that you love and can’t get enough of?! have a project you’d like to see ?! let me know… maybe i’ll do the grunt work and a how-to for you! be curious friends… hg

our wedding…

today is gil and i’s first anniversary… i’m nothing but speechless when i think of how blessed we are and what we’ve both been rescued out of… i thought the best way to celebrate would be a wedding post of our special day in charleston… i must say, it was nothing short of amazing… literally, the. best. day. ever. thanks AGAIN to everyone who made themselves a part of it by helping and celebrating with us! be curious… enjoy & happy labor day weekend!

guests loved the photobooth! they had their pictures taken upon arrival in front of my great-grandmothers quilt...

wedding cake covered in rose petals...

my cherished keys {usually on my neck} and an antique brooch gifted from a best friend donned my bouquet...

invitaions...

maps of charleston and a list of our favorite places for guests spending labor day weekend in the low country...

rings & izze...

gil's grandmother learned to type on this very royal... guests had fun figuring out how to type us messages...

the whole family...

handmade candy poppers filled with charleston salt water taffy...

table tops...

my parents...

one room was filled with tea party hor dourves... tiny sandwhiches, soups and such...

the view of the ashley river at sunset...

cocktail tables...

the other room was filled with tea party desserts... cupcakes, my mom's coconut macaroons, and more cream puffs than you could count.

my dad and i danced to "my girl" by the temptations...

gil wrote and sang me a beautiful song... love him!

saucy lingerie cake…

lingerie parties are always a hit with a group of girls celebrating another girl friend’s soon to be marriage… but a cake with lingerie on it doesn’t seem classy right?! wrong. what better way to celebrate a lingerie party than a still-elegant cake with saucy lingerie on it?! i made sure i donned this one with lots of silver glitter and edible pearls… it was perfect.

have a lingerie party in the works? be curious… i can guarantee the girls will love this.

a sunflower cake to celebrate 50…

a super sweet dad {jeff} and daughter {salem} dreamed up this cake for mom’s 50th birthday… it was really cute to see them planning a surprise party behind her back and us discussing the cake via email and facebook when she wasn’t around. miss salem had the cake all figured out… i love a girl who knows what she wants! inspired by olivia’s graduation cake, she asked for white icing, black grosgrain ribbon and a giant fresh sunflower. sophisticated, classic and a punch of something over the top. what better way to celebrate 50?!

i think it turned out just lovely. what do you think? be curious and happy sunday! hg

birthday candles…

my sweet friend donna needed a cake for her dad & brother’s birthday celebration this weekend… i thought these fun candles would be perfect. lucky me, they loved it!!

wedding weekend: ashley goodwin…

it’s always exciting to be working with brides as their wedding day approaches… anticipation, excitement, there’s so much leading up to this most special day. this weekend i’m working with someone uber fabulous! ashley goodwin… not only did we grace the art institute together but she’s an INCREDIBLE interior designer turned photographer… honestly, i’m beyond words excited that she booked me {over a year ago!} to create her wedding cake… shouldn’t i be nervous?! this girl is amazing! be sure to check her out here and here and wish her the best as she and her new hubs head to hawaii in october… charlotte is sad to see you go!

we’ve come up with something fabulous of course and i simply CANNOT wait to see the mint museum uptown put together for this joyous occasion! i can already tell ya that i’ll be blown away… can’t wait to share it with you soon!  happy wedding weekend ashley!!!! xoxo hg

polka dots and booties…

here’s a super cute baby shower cake i did a while back… everyone loves polka dots and booties right?! it may just be the most perfect way to welcome a new bundle of joy… it’s a timeless baby cake element with a looking glass twist.

be curious! hg
