costume check: circus inspired by accident…
Posted: September 15, 2012 Filed under: style & fashion., vintage prints Leave a comment »i’m normally off on the weekends but as the cosmetic stylist i spent my day at the store supporting our biggest cosmetics event of the year: beauty on location. it’s a huge beauty bash where artists come from each line to make over the ladies, gab about fall beauty trends & launch a lot of our fall collections. there’s a hair bar, a nail bar & there are hundreds of appointments… it’s so fun! last night we had a live band & mocktails. today prizes, free gifts & a dj spinning all the good stuff.
even though i can be a neutral nancy i decided to wear a fun, bright vintage printed skirt, my new favorite boots & a black h&m tee with mesh polka dots {very a-la stella mccartney.} i had my bestie Jessie at MAC give me some sassy black liner & told her to give me a pop! she went straight for the brightest blue, electric eel. i loved the look & it was SO fun for the day.
needless to say i soon realized i looked like a walking circus… & i kind of liked it. be curious!
{& it’s not too late, if you’re in charlotte visit Nordstrom tonight to join in the beauty bash fun!}
skirt: value village
shirt: h&m
watch: nordstrtom

maison number eleven…
Posted: February 28, 2012 Filed under: antiques & trinkets., business., exteriors., favorites., interiors., living small., personal., vintage prints Leave a comment »i’ve been excited about this announcement for weeks now!! of course you all know about my love of everything antique, vintage, thrifted & reclaimed… & i don’t like the term “hoarder” but i’ve been buying & repurposing things for years now always hoping that one day i’d have a place to sell & share them… & well, the time has finally come…
my mom & i are teaming up to open an antique booth at one of our favorite local spots: The Depot At Gibson Mill in Concord, NC! we’re calling it “maison number eleven.” mixing my love of french style & my moms enchantment with gardens we’re offering an eclectic mix of furniture, artwork, antique dishes, gifts, vintage clothes, home furnishings & to-die-for custom garden work benches that my parents design and build from scratch…
just in time for spring, we’re throwing a grand opening soiree Saturday March 10th, 2012 from 10am to 7pm. The Depot has 85,000 square feet of trinkets & what-nots for you to explore… not to mention a fabulously delicious diner open all day so that you can take a break & nosh in between shopping. {try the blackened tilapia tacos, you’ll thank me later.) & our booth is actually directly across from the diner in the design center… look for our grey flannel walls & gold shingled roof, you won’t miss it! we’ll be mingling all day, passing out fresh cupcakes to visitors & of course shopping!
we still have a lot of work to do to get ready so spread the word & we can’t wait to see you on March 10th… be curious!

i’m obsessed with: rose everything…
Posted: January 22, 2012 Filed under: cupcakes., favorites., interiors., personal., travel., vintage prints 2 Comments »i’ve always had a thing for the silk-soft petals, unmistakable scent & sheer timelessness that is the rose. i was reminded of this while on a work trip in Philadelphia this past week. i was working on the new lighting install at our King of Prussia store, & it seemed like everything that kept striking my fancy this week was completely rose inspired.
i’d never say i’m a huge fan of everything pink but throwing on NARS desire blush & schiap lipstick always makes my day. muted pink also made it into our wedding colors, & i always choose pink for my toothbrush color. okay, so maybe i do secretly love it. there i said it. but even more than pink, i love rose. that faded, antique, & almost slightly dirty shade of pink. the fresh scent of the blooming flowers & even the unforgettable taste of something rose flavored. it’s all just so classic.
i’ve gathered all of the rose things i’m completely obsessing over right now… enjoy.

the rose flavored macarons from laduree in paris still have me daydreaming. lucky america, they just opened a manhattan location. oh my.

anyone have a wedding coming up?

i bought this at the King of Prussia Nordstrom and i'm more than obsessed. the scent is perfect and it lingers in a good way.

i would have bought all the roses from the paris markets if they would have survived the flight home.
what rose inspired things are you loving? be curious… and tell me!
antiquing in the sunshine state…
Posted: August 27, 2011 Filed under: antiques & trinkets., favorites., interiors., personal., travel., vintage prints Leave a comment »my mom and i headed to St. Augustine {one of my favorite places ever} to visit my grandparents and spend a long weekend at the beach. thankfully, we passed the hurricane on the way down and it’s beautiful here! i’m calling it the #3generationweekend… my mom, gramma and i have all kinds of fun plans and i’m hoping high tea is on the list today. before we got here we had my gramma scouting out a great antique place for us to go shopping. she told us she’d heard of a great place in Jacksonville around San Jose. we headed up there yesterday {in their huge SUV} to check it out. it’s called Avonlea Antique Mall… it’s a lot like the queen city’s Sleep Poet, but in a newer style building. we actually grabbed lunch first at their delicious little lunching spot! {sleepy poet, hint: it was so nice to sit down to a yummy, quick lunch. we were energized and ready to shop after that. can i see a cafe in your future?!} i’ve been sticking to my LIST lately while antique/house shopping. {more tips to come in another post} but, it prevents me from buying things i don’t really need/have space for and i don’t feel bad about buying something on the list once i find it!
i thought i’d share my findings with you all… i was on the hunt for a round table and i’m happy to say that i found one and bought it! so that’s getting checked off the list… yay! i had to pass up the $1495.00 one that i loved, but this one is perfect!
i almost had a heart attack when i saw these beauties… the golden-yellow reminds me of an old 30′s theater. they will be perfect for when we have extra guests at our tiny house.
it sounds weird, but the bathroom at this place was like another store. vintage clothes and trinkets for sale everywhere… i bet it’s hard to get people out of there! we stopped in on our way out and i found this french souvenir scarf… i just couldn’t pass it up. the colors are perfect for fall and it’s a fabulous vintage print to add to my ever growing collection.
if you’re ever in the Jacksonville area, be curious… and make time to stop in. {this place will definitely be on my list of favorite things in another upcoming travel post about St. Augustine…} happy weekend my lovely readers! hg

Posted: August 22, 2011 Filed under: antiques & trinkets., favorites., personal., style & fashion., vintage prints Leave a comment »i hit 77 north this past saturday to visit Value Village in Mooresville… every now and then i get an itch to see what might be hiding around the piles of weirdness… i tired on a lot {including a vintage PORTS knit skirt, sadly it didn’t sit right on these hips!} and found a few cute things worth bringing home…
one: this not at all tarnished gold wrap bracelet… {$.80 cents}
two: i’m loving oversized blouses lately, and this striped one is just what i needed to get ready for fall… {and what a great vintage print!} you can’t go wrong with black and white. {$3.50}
three: another fall find… a sweet navy knitted capelet & i think it’s hand made. i’m loving the equestrian buttons and fringe… come on fall weather! {$5.50}
i may have spent more on my high octane gas than what i actually puchased but, it was fun. sometimes you just need to get out of the house and go looking for trinkets and whatnot. be curious…
buffalo exchange…
Posted: May 29, 2011 Filed under: style & fashion., sunday funday..., vintage prints 1 Comment »i’m excited to blog about another favorite for sunday funday! you may have heard that a new buffalo exchange moved into town… and if you haven’t you should be on the edge of your seat!! i spent a year wishing we had one when my l.a.-esque friend Taylor lived with me. she worked {and is now back} at one of the l.a. stores. i’d raid her closet and my ears would twinge when i heard “oh, those manolo spectators? i got them at buffalo exchange.” ahhhhhhh! seriously?!? it sounds too good to be true, but what if you could get cash, or NEW clothes for all those old clothes you’re about to give to goodwill?
buffalo exchange is a whole new spin on your typical thrift store… they operate as a trading post where you can, buy {shop} or sell or trade. it’s easy. you take your pile of stuff in, they sift through it, decide what they like\want to re-sell on the spot. the deal works like this: they tell you what their re-sale price will be. let’s say it’s $20… if you agree on it, then they offer you 50% of that price in trade {$10} or 30% in cash {$6.} it’s completely your choice to let it go or not, if you don’t think the price offered is worthy, then you can hang on to your stuff. i kept a leather motorcycle vest instead of selling it… i’m still trying to figure out how to work it into my wardrobe though! once you’re finished they can cash you out on the spot, or you can shop to trade! i acutally decided to get some in cash and they rest on a trade card to spend later. how amazing! {also, if you end up with things left over that didn’t work out and you still don’t want to keep them, they have a huge bin where you can donate the rest to crisis assitance!} you’ll love knowing there’s room for new goodies in your closet at home and that you’re helping the local community!
and they have SO much! mens, womens, vintage, new, designer, shoes, accessories, jewelry & they even have they’re own line of band new basics that you’ll find mixed in. i think gil and i made about $115 and $40 to trade later. not too shabby for a goodwill pile.
i found my new favorite vintage dooney for $17.
and an awesome vintage dress… i love this print!
lastly… one thing i love is that you can take your new things home in a plastic bag OR you can ditch the bag for a token worth 10 cents that you can donate to your favorite charity on your way out the door. each city with a buffalo exchange gives to different local charities. i love it!
location: 1521 Central Avenue Charlotte, NC 28205 (704) 372-2300 {look for monica, she runs the place!}
be sure to visit and let me know how much you get, what you find and how you liked it!!!! be curious! hg
